Buxton Lime Firms, Buxton

During WWII many kilns were decommissioned as they could not conform with the strict blackout regulations. This obviously reduced production but this was overcome by enclosing the top of the kilns and fortunately this improved their efficiency and led to the development of a new type of kiln.

To really explore the site it would be worth taking sensible footwear as after climbing up 20 foot I realized that my trainers would not survive climbing back down

if you go looking for the Lime works head out of buxton down the A6 towards matlock and the site is about a mile down the road on the right.
